Special event insurance

Special event insurance to protect your investment in anniversary parties, bar/bat mitzvahs, graduation parties, and all other special occasions. Special Event coverage offers financial protections in case of postponements or cancellations due to natural disasters, inclement weather, etc.

Your policy will likely compensate you for canceling your event because of the injury, illness, or death of key event participants – especially your immediate family members. If a key person, like your rabbi or minister, essential vendor, florist, caterer, photographer, etc. doesn’t make it to your event, your insurance will help you recoup some of your losses.

Typical event insurance policies cost under $500, depending on how much coverage you need.

You can also add riders onto your policy to cover unique risks:

    • Military Service – If the bride or groom serves in the active reserves or regular military, they may be called up to active duty with little warning.

    • Tuxedos and Gowns – Your boutique or tailor could damage your clothing or go bankrupt.

    • Gifts – Your renters or homeowners insurance may not cover gifts and protect them against damage and theft.

    • Honeymoons – You may have to cancel your special trip because of bad weather, illness, or other unforeseen circumstances.

    • Professional Counseling – Your event’s postponement or cancellation may well create intense emotional stress (be sure to get a note from your therapist).

You can get separate liability coverage from many insurers. However, your event site may maintain a liability insurance policy. If you’re planning to hold an event on your property, consider purchasing liability insurance beyond what your homeowners policy currently provides.

Before purchasing Wedding or Special Event insurance, take the following steps:

    • Make sure your insurance company has the proper licenses for doing business in your state. You can view this information by contacting your State Insurance Department.

    • Know the price of your policy and what it will pay out if you experience covered losses and damages.

    • Understand what isn’t covered by your policy.

  • Find out if you qualify for or already have coverage via your credit card company or warrantees. Read through your existing auto, liability, and automobile insurance policies. Ask your independent insurance agent to advise you on your current coverage status.
